UNESCO APPOINTS A NEW DIRECTOR-GENERAL

Every four (4) years, the General Conference of UNESCO appoints a Director-General, who directs the Secretariat of the Organization to put into realization the programmes adopted by the General Conference.

At the 39th General Conference of UNESCO, in November 2017, the General Conference elected Ms. Audrey Azoulay as the new Director-General of UNESCO. She succeeds Ms. Irina Bokova.

Ms. Azoulay, until her appointment, was the Minister for Culture and Communication of France.
